History of development of electronic technology

The electronics industry began to develop in the early 20th century, today it is an industry with high preeminence in all fields of industry and growing in popularity worldwide.

The electricity industry began in the 19th century, leading to the development of inventions such as trumpets, radio transmitters, telephone receivers and television. Vacuum tubes were initially used for electronic devices, then were almost completely replaced by semiconductor devices as a foundational technology in the industry.

Sir Joseph John “J.J.” Thomson (December 18, 1856 – August 30, 1940) was a British physicist who discovered electrons and isotopes and invented mass spectrometry. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1906 for his discovery of the electron.

JJ. Thomson was born in 1856 in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, England into a Scottish family. In 1870, he studied engineering at Manchester University (known as Owens College at the time), then Thomson moved to Trinity College, Cambridge in 1876. In 1880 he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and science. By 1883, he earned a master’s degree. In 1884, Thomson became a professor of physics at Cambridge University.

JJ. Thomson was knighted in 1908 and received the medal of honor in 1912. In 1914, he gave a Romanes Lecture at Oxford University on atomic theory. In 1918, he became principal of Trinity College, Cambridge, a position he held until his death.
